Limited water resources combined with the demand for fresh water from the oil and gas industry leave drought-prone regions in need of a solution. According to the Midland Reporter-Telegram, Palisade Pipeline, a Houston-based company, estimates freshwater demand in portions of the Permian Basin reached over 33.6 million gallons a day last year. Palisade’s proposed solution is to build a pipeline system that would deliver wastewater from the city of Lubbock to industrial customers of West Texas and New Mexico. The company expects construction to take about six months, with water likely to flow through the system by late 2021 or early 2022.
