ABC4 reports that Salt Lake City declared a Stage 2 water shortage last Thursday as a result of limited snowmelt and low streamflows. Mayor Erin Mendenhall recently enacted Stage 1 of the city’s water contingency plan in late March. The recent upgrade to Stage 2 includes reducing water use at municipal facilities, government agencies and schools, and being especially conservative with existing water supplies. Salt Lake City has not had to declare a Stage 2 response since 2004. Residents and businesses have been asked to conserve wherever possible.
