Briefly: Microplastics have varying effects on soil and water retention

EOS reports on a new study finding that microplastics are changing how soil interacts with water. Researchers found that a plastic concentration of just 0.4% by mass can change how quickly water flows through soil. Another recent study looked at how differences in flow rates affect agriculture. The results were complicated, with added plastic increasing, decreasing, or not affecting root growth depending on circumstances.
