The Desert Sun reports that the federal government together with the Imperial Irrigation District in California proposed a System Conservation Implementation Agreement that calls for up to 300,000 acre-feet a year of irrigation water to be conserved. Despite the water conservation benefits, concerns have been raised about the potential impact on wildlife and communities near the Salton Sea, whose drying shoreline has led to harmful dust and air pollution.The county is one of the poorest in the state and comprised of primarily Latino residents.
