KUNC reports on a proposed new set of rules for managing the Colorado River, put forth by a coalition of environmental groups. This proposal, which includes robust environmental protections, comes after the Upper Basin states and the Lower Basin states each released their own proposed water management frameworks last month. Each of these proposals are management plans that would replace the current rules in place for sharing the river, which will expire in 2026. While authors of the new environmental proposal don’t expect their plan to be adopted in full, they hope to encourage more environmental considerations in future Colorado River policies.
