KUNC reports that the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation will use a portion of the $4 billion it received through the Inflation Reduction Act for “short-term conservation,” such as removing grass and other water-intensive plantings from cities and suburbs. While a breakdown of that spending has not been released, most of the $4 billion will reportedly go toward system conservation projects in the drought-stricken Colorado River Basin, which could include buying or temporarily leasing water from agricultural water users.
