This week the Loveland Reporter-Herald reported this story on the first of two public comment sessions scheduled with Larimer County Commissioners charged with considering whether or not to issue a 1041 permit for the proposed Northern Integrated Supply Project. Of the dozens of Larimer County residents who weighed in, many asked the commissioners not to grant the permit for the $1.1 billion project, while at least one advocated for the project and pointed out that county staff have recommended the commissioners approve the permit.
Comments primarily cited concerns around environmental impacts of the project which would build two reservoirs capable of holding close to 216,000 acre-feet of water, the cost of which would be paid for by the 15 area water providers that would benefit, including the Fort Collins-Loveland Water District. The next public comment session is scheduled for Aug. 31. The commissioners’ decision is expected on Sept. 2.
