Last week The Colorado Sun reported that Utah has asked the federal government to delay their original fast-track approval process for the Lake Powell Pipeline. This comes after Colorado, together with Arizona, California, Nevada, New Mexico, and Wyoming, the six U.S. states that share supplies from the Colorado River with Utah, sent a letter of opposition to the federal government, warning of litigation.
The Lake Powell Pipeline would deliver water 140 miles from Lake Powell in northern Arizona to the growing area surrounding St. George, Utah. Utah is now pointing to the 14,000 public comments received on a draft environmental impact statement that the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation released in June for the project, saying an extension would allow time to consider those comments and update the environmental impact statement.
