Las Cruces Sun News reports that the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission, in cooperation with New Mexico First, will be holding applicant information sessions as part of its Groundwater Conservation Pilot Program in the Lower Rio Grande. Those who participate in the program will be awarded grant funds to temporarily stop the use of groundwater so that the impact on regional aquifers can be assessed. To be eligible for the grant program, a parcel must be at least 10 acres in size and have groundwater rights.
